Springtime beauty...

Of all the spring blossom, it's hard to beat the delicate beauty of Cercis siliquastrum- the Judas tree- which flowers on bare branches just before (or as) the bright leaves begin to appear, making the blossom seem as though it is almost floating around the stems from a distance.

It is often multi-stemmed (as ours is here) and is perfect if you are looking for a smaller (usually up to 4 metres in UK) but beautiful ornamental tree throughout the seasons. It produces purple pods once the flowers die back which hang from the branches, due to it belonging to the legume family.

If you have a bit of space for a tree, Cercis loves a sunny spot & is a great choice for encouraging wildlife into your garden!
