This project was a completely blank canvas - a square south-west facing garden plot with newly turfed lawn and a small patio behind the house.

The paving was extended to provide a larger seating area and taken down the side of the garden to reach the shed.

Decking was built to provide additional seating and dining space and enclosed with fence panels to hide the refuse and compost bins.
A pergola was also constructed to provide further structure and height.

Finally, a wide border across the garden was created and this and the area under the pergola were planted with architectural specimens and perennials for all-year interest.
Plants were chosen with the family in mind, including some tough plants that would withstand the rigours of footballs etc!
